google-sites

Google Sites is a tool with great potential for use by music educators. With Google Sites, one can easily create a website for a music class, program, or to serve as a personal/professional homepage. Google Sites also make it simple to incorporate other Google tools (Docs, Forms, Presentations, Voice Widgets, etc.), making possible some interesting and sophisticated approaches to communicating and interacting through this medium. We will use Google Sites to create a WebQuest and an ePortfolio documenting your achievement in this class.

There is a “Classic” version of Google Sites and a “New” version. We will be using the new version, which is more user-friendly and feature-rich. To use this, you must access Google Sites using a web browser that supports its features, such as Google Chrome.

To learn how to use the NEW Google Sites, complete the Google Sites Essential Training on Lynda.com. You may also find THIS TUTORIAL and the Google Sites Help Center useful as you work with Google Sites.

Finally, Google Sites doesn’t work well with native audio files. The best way to include audio (important for music teachers!) is to use SoundCloud to host your audio file, and then use Sites' “Embed/URL” tool to embed the audio file in your site. Simply sign up for a free SoundCloud account and upload your audio file. Then, click the share button under your audio file.
